Modulation of radiotherapy- and chemotherapy-induced normal tissue response as prophylaxis of their side effects
نویسنده
چکیده
Ionising radiation and cytostatic agents used in cancer therapy exert damaging effects on normal tissues and induce there a complex response at the cellular and molecular levels. Cytokines and adhesion molecules are released during this response and mediate intercellular interactions among the effectors of immune and other systems.1,2 Medical strategies that modulate this response in order to reduce chemotherapyand radiotherapy-induced side effects are contradictory. Some of them inhibit this reaction, and their use is based on the hypothesis that exaggerated or persisting inflammatory response enhances the tissue damage; others stimulate this response in order to enhance physiological protective processes. Plant medicine in the treatment of radiation-induced normal tissue lesions-A review
Radiation-induced normal tissue lesions, once seen as a consequence of loss of proliferative integrity of clonogenic target cells, inevitable and untreatable are now viewed as a result of dynamic interactions between multiple cell lines within a particular tissue that can be intervened. Normal tissue damage is the most important limiting factor in radiotherapy and a major component in the medic...

Cancer is one of the most difficult diseases to treat in modern medicine. Annually, many articles are published that propose various ways for preventing carcinogenesis. Furthermore, research into cancer treatments is carried out with minimal side effects. The most common non-invasive cancer treatments include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Low effectiveness of...
